Day 4 - Thursday, April 20th. 2017

We woke to flannel grey skies, just what you’d expect on a perfect English morning. Our day was launched with a robust breakfast spread of delicious fuel to charge us up as we walked along the river’s edge toward Holy Trinity Church.  It was an umbrella parade fifty-strong to the outskirts of the cemetery where we circled up to give honor to our God before we entered a church which honored Shakespeare.  Psalm 145 re-directed us to the One who deserves our worship and we concluded with the benediction of “How Great Thou Art”.  We walked through Shakespeare’s life in reverse today: his burial place in Holy Trinity, his “new” place, and finally his birthplace.  Once again our own SCCS acting troupe put on a riveting presentation of the Balcony Scene in "Romeo and Juliet".  Guided by authentic Royal Shakespearean Actors, they concluded with a scene from “Midsummer Summer NIght’s Dream”. Free time to roam the streets of Stratford and enjoy scones too big to big to be true and a hot cuppa was the perfect farewell to this lovely city.  A quick coach ride to the Cotswolds and we were deposited in the glorious meadows of the English countryside.  Horses nuzzled at us, looking for attention (or a carrot!) and daffodils and tulips lined the fences.  It was a brisk 2 mile walk with just enough sprinkles to keep us moving at a clip.  The hike concluded at Slaughter’s Country Inn, a darling haven of cottages where we had a great family dinner together and then headed back to get a much needed night of rest.  Tomorrow we take Oxford by storm!  We love that you’re following along with us.
