What do you do after an 11 hour cross continental
flight? Take a two hour dinner cruise
down the Avon River, of course! What an
incredible start to the trip. The Countess of Evesham, a longboat took us
through the glorious winding river stocked with swans and trimmed with weeping
willows, past all the landmarks of Shakespeare’s birthplace. Dinner was roast pork or salmon and a
delicious tart for dessert. Not only
were our bellies deliciously filled, but our spirits were nourished with great
fellowship at the tables, laughter as we were treated to a British-speak off
competition, of which our own Riley Pettee was determined to have the most
authentic accent. Our hosts regaled us
with stories of life in Stratford and a Q & A to help us understand modern life
in this antique city. Exhausted, but
happy, we strolled back to our hotel that sits on the banks of the river and
retired to our rooms to rest up for the busy day ahead. We are grateful for safety, sweet
conversations, delicious food, and the anticipation of great things to
come. We have arrived!
